Santa Claus at Hydro Harvest Farms in Ruskin

See Santa this Sunday from 1pm to 3pm at the Hydro Harvest Farms in Ruskin.  It is a little over a half-hourdrive from MacDill AFB.  It’s a great trip that will be fun for the whole family.  Not only can you see Santa, but you can pick out a Christmas tree and either pick your own vegetables or get fresh picked vegetables. 

Hours are Mon-Sat from 10am-6pm and Sun from 10:30am-4pm.

Try out the MacDill AFB Wood Shop

The Arts & Craft Center at MacDill AFB has a Wood shop with a wide range of tools and machines available for the experienced and the not so experienced carpenters. There is a skilled friendly staff available to answer questions and help you with your projects.

The cost is only $2.50 per half hour. For a Christmas present, you can purchase a gift card for $20 that can be used in half-hour increments for the do-it-yourselfers! You can bring in your own wood or purchase it in the Wood Shop.

It is conveniently located next to the Auto Shop and across the street from the Base Fitness Center and MacDill Lanes. On this map, it Number 29 and called the Skills Development Center.

Snow at Channelside!!

Its snowing at Channelside Bay Plaza every Friday and Saturday from 6p- 10p!!!  Get into the holiday spirit while shopping or dining and enjoy a snow shower every hour on the hour!  Channelside offers a wide variety of restaurants and entertainment including bowling and a movie theater.  Spend $100.00 or more and receive a free snow globe.

Also check out the Smooth Jazz on December 21st hosted by 94.1 WSJT from 6pm-9pm!

This unique plaza is located between St. Pete Times Forum and the Florida Aquarium at 615 Channelside Drive.  If you park across the street at the parking structure, remember to take your parking ticket with you and get it validated when you buy something at Channelside to get a reduced parking rate.

Free Children’s Tickets to Medieval Times in Kissimmee!

Military dependents 12yrs and younger can get free tickets to Medieval Times performances through 25 Dec with the purchase of an adult ticket. Medieval Times is located in Kissimmee, east of MacDill AFB, a little over an hour drive depending on traffic. Admission includes dinner, beverages and an exciting live show. Kids will love the jousting and adults will enjoy the atmosphere! To make sure that you see the performance when want to, reservations are suggested and can be made by calling 1-888-WE-JOUST.

Adult tickets can be purchased at the MacDill ITT located in the Exchange Mall.

Handz On Family Program at the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art on 1 Dec

This Saturday 1 Dec at the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art in Sarasota try out the Handz On Family Program. This family event will introduce the whole family to the architect Ca’ d’Zan. Children will be allowed to try drawing and drafting tools Also children will get a chance to design and make a mosaic inspired by Ca’ d’Zan.

These activities are first come first serve basis, all children must be accompanied by an adult (maximum 3 children per adult).

The Mosaic activity is available from 1p-3p and the family activities sheet is available all day.

Admission prices are as follows:

Active Duty Military- $6.00
Adult-$19.00
Student-$6.00
Senior-$16.00
Children-$6.00
Children under 6 free!

Hyde Park Village Enchanted Tree Lighting Ceremony Friday 23 Nov

Watch the Enchanted Tree Lighting Ceremony in Hyde Park Village on Friday 23 Nov from 6pm to 8pm. There will be lots of fun activities for adults and children including carriage rides, face painters, storytelling, hot cocoa, live holiday music and a visit from Santa!

There will be complimentary parking in parking garages near the corner of Swann and Dakota Aves.

Sunday Family Special at MacDill Lanes

Take the family for a fun time of bowling at MacDill Lanes. On Sundays for $20, the Family Special is available and includes 2 games each, shoes, 1 large pizza and a pitcher of soda!

MacDill Lanes is open from 1pm to 8pm on Sundays. It is located near the MacDill Gym and Arts and Craft Center.

If you are not sure where MacDill Lanes is located at on the base, it is Number 10 on this map.

2007 Tampa Cigar Heritage Festival

This Saturday Nov 17th from 10am to 5pm, Ybor City will be host to the Tampa Cigar Heritage Festival. This festival celebrates Ybor’s legacy and heritage, and highlights a time when Ybor City ws considered the cigar capital of the world.

Participants will be educated on the art of making cigars, as well as cultural and music demonstrations.

Proceeds from this festival will go to the Ybor City Museum Society.

Great food at Taste of Boston at Ballast Point Park

For a great place for seafood, burgers, sandwiches and chicken, try Taste of Boston at the Ballast Point Park! You might have a little bit of a wait during the weekends, but the wait is definitely worth it! This restaurant is very conveniently located to MacDill AFB. If you go out the Bayshore Gate at MacDill, it is about a 5 min drive. The Taste of Boston is the in the building right at the start of the Ballast Point Park fishing pier. There is also a bait shop connected to the restaurant. Of course, the 960 foot pier is a great place for fishing. The pier is open 24hrs a day.

“The Earth is My Mother”

“The Earth is my Mother” and “Its’s Not Easy Being Green”, is being presented by the TECO Gallery of Children’s Art, located at 1002 E. Palm Ave., Ybor City.

The Gallery is hanging on trash on the walls , hoping to encourage energy conservation.

Seventh-graders from Academy Prep in east Tampa used light bulbs, extension cords, fly swatters and empty tin cans to make puppets and marionettes in “The Earth is My Mother” exhibit. For the “It’s Not Easy Being Green” portion of the exhibit children from the Police Athletic Leagues summer camp and disabled adults from Pyramid, used mixed media on muslin dolls to create”green people” to foster the theme it is not easy being green or different!!

The exhibit will run from now thru mid-February; 8a.m to 5p.m Monday to Friday, this is a free event!!!
