20th Annual Ruskin Seafood Festival 1 & 2 Nov
This weekend is the 20th Annual Ruskin Seafood Festival at E.G. Simmons Park in Ruskin. Fill up on the delicious seafood fare, including lobster, oysters, clams, grouper, mullet, and shrimp. Listen to the live music on the main stage, showcasing an array of musical styles including jazz, reggae, pop, blues, country and gospel. There will also be a boat show with powerboats, pleasure boats, flat boats, bass boats, cruisers and nautical accessories. Check out the arts and crafts for sale. There will be exhibits include educational and wellness displays, commercial exhibits and environmental and wildlife exhibits and vendors for pet services. Croc Encounters, Lowry Park Zoo and Sarasota’s Mote Marine will be participating this year. For the kids, there will be a children’s area with inflatable rides, games, activities and interactive live entertainment that includes magicians, jugglers and clowns. Hours are Nov 1 from 10 am to 5 pm and Nov 2 from 10 am to 4 pm. The cost is $5 for adults (children under 12 are free). Parking is free and a shuttle service is provided as well as handicap parking facilities. The event is alcohol-free and pet friendly with pets required to be on a leash. Resting on the Little Manatee River, Ruskin is the southernmost community of SouthShore. Many residents enjoy Ruskin because it is set apart by it’s slower pace and rural surroundings. The town was established in 1906 and still has maintained it’s small town community lifestyle.
