It was one of the first planned communities within the State of Florida and the first in Hillsborough County. It remains one of the most popular places to live within suburban Tampa because of its close proximity to the city compared to new developments. college degree

A lot of times as you move from base to base, one consideration for the military family is what educational opportunities are available for the service member or family member. As the kids get older, you may have to decide if MacDill AFB and the Tampa area is right for them if they are going to graduate from high school and go to college during your PCS move to MacDill. Or for a spouse, is there a university where they can start or finish their degree? College bound students can choose to attend one of many major colleges, universities, technical and trade schools. Tampa Bay is home to a respected medical school, top-ranked law school, private national liberal arts college and several graduate schools. Within minutes of MacDill AFB right near downtime Tampa is the University of Tampa. UT is a small private school with about 5600 students. There is an Evening College that allows students to work during the day and attend class in the evening. The University of South Florida is a large public school with about 45000 students in several campuses throughout the Tampa Bay area. The largest USF campus in the northern part of Tampa and about a 40 minute drive from MacDill AFB. The Stetson University College of Law has about 1000 students, full-time and part-time, working on their law degrees. Located in Gulfport, Stetson is nationally recognized for its excellence. There are 16 other colleges and universities in the Tampa Bay area: Argosy University/Tampa, Eckerd College, Florida College, Florida Metropolitan University, Hillsborough Community College, TT Technical Institutes, Keller Graduate School of Management, National-Louis University, Nova Southeastern University, Saint Leo University, Southwest Florida College, The Art Institute of Tampa, The International Academy of Design and Technology, Troy University, University of Phoenix and Webster University. Military Discounts at AutoZone

old car

The one thing that you can count on when you own a car is that one day you will have to buy something to maintain it or to fix it. In the Tampa area, you can count on AutoZone parts stores for a military discount on almost all their products. The discount is 10% which adds up depending on what you need to buy. The other great thing about AutoZone is their customer service. I have been to several Tampa area AutoZones and have always had excellent customer service. Store personnel have always been very helpful and willing to answer any question. They have a large variety of products for car care and everything that you need to repair a car. They offer free testing of batteries and alternators. When your check engine light comes on, they can provide you a diagnosis, sell you the parts to fix it and show you where the parts go on your car. Another great help is the tool loan program they have. The tool loan program requires a deposit which you get back when you return the borrowed tools. Instead of buying expensive tools that you may not use too often, you can borrow tools and then return it!

The weekend movies playing at MacDill AFB movie theater are recently released movies.  On Friday at 7pm is Rambo, rated R for strong graphic bloody violence, sexual assaults, grisly images, language.  Slyvester Stallone returns as John Rambo has retreated to a simple life in a rural Thai village near the Burmese border, capturing snakes for local entertainers, and transporting roamers in his old PT boat. Following repeated pleas, Rambo helps ferry a group of Christian aid workers into war-torn Burma, where the local Karen villagers are regularly tortured and massacred by Major Tint’s sadistic soldiers. The humanitarian mission is going well, until the village is attacked and the missionaries are kidnapped, and Rambo is once again asked to transport - but this time a group of mercenaries, assembled by the missionaries’ minister on a deadly rescue mission. This time he doesn’t stay behind.   This movie is 93 minutes long.  On Saturday at 3pm Cloverfield is playing.  It is rated rated PG-13 for violence, terror, disturbing images and is 99 min long.  Five young New Yorkers throw their friend a going-away party the night that a monster the size of a skyscraper descends upon the city.
